- Little free libraries: Little Free Libraries promote reading and literacy by providing local, accessible sources for books. A list of locations is available here.
- Knitting circle: a weekly volunteer-led opportunity for folks to drop by for a knit and a chat. Gathering weekly, the circle welcomes everyone of all levels of experience… or none at all! There is no charge and registration is not required.
- Lit cafe: A series of readings by local authors and poets. Built around a theme or genre, the Cafés are a quarterly event (usually scheduled for Monday evenings) and feature between four and five presenters. There is no registration required.
- Out trips for seniors: Monthly out-trips for seniors are an opportunity for small-group day-outings to both indoor and outdoor attractions. There is no charge, but space is limited to twelve.
- Repair cafe: Repair Cafés are regular events where volunteers support neighbours in keeping household items out of the waste stream by sharing their skills and expertise. In the process, participants can learn simple maintenance and repair techniques.
- Death cafe: An international network of informal discussion groups where neighbours gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. The objective is to increase awareness of death with a view of helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. Death Cafés are a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.
- Neighbourhood Fun Nights: A summer feature at Crescent Beach, attracting residents and visitors for a low-cost picnic-style dinner, live music, and kids’ activities and prizes. This event occurs through July and August (weather permitting), on Wednesdays from 5-7 pm at our beautiful Centennial Plaza and adjacent field. The suggested cost for dinner, dessert, and a beverage are $12, $8 for kids 13 and under (pay more if you can, less if you can’t).
