Current clients of a regional health authority's Home Care Program or Mental Health and Substance Use Program, are eligible for a free portable air conditioner (AC).
Free portable air conditioners are available for individuals referred by regional health authority programs. This offer includes:
- One portable AC unit: Portable units are on wheels and are installed by connecting a flexible duct hose through an open window. They're plugged into a standard wall electrical outlet.
- A one-time installation: The client is responsible for ongoing maintenance, take-down and reinstallation. The AC unit is covered by the manufacturer's product warranty for only the duration specified in the documentation.
How to apply:
- Review the eligibility criteria.
- Renters need to get their landlord's consent. Complete the landlord consent form.
- Submit an application online. If additional support is needed to apply call 1-800-224-9376.
After we receive your application, our team will reach out to you within a few weeks to let you know if you're approved.
- Applications are forward to contractors. The contractor will contact the applicant within one to two weeks to schedule a home visit. Installations typically occur within four weeks of submitting an application. The program pauses installation in winter. Applications that are submitted in winter will be reviewed as usual, however installations will take place the following spring.
