Shelters and Homeless Support Services

Provided by Surrey Urban Mission Society

Provides access to shelters, meals, and community program referrals for housing insecure individuals.
The following services are offered:
  • Meal Program: Daily meals involve morning breakfasts and lunches for the general public. Breakfast 8:00am-9:30am, Lunch 12:30pm-1:30pm and Sunday Dinner 5:30pm-6:30pm. During lunch they also provide donated pet foods, other pet supplies, donated clothing, and toiletries.
  • SUMplace Temporary Shelter: A temporary shelter with 50 bed spaces (cots and warm blankets) on a first-come-first-serve basis. Once a guest has secured a bed they will continue to keep that bed ongoing until they no longer return. Doors open at 7pm. Curfew at 11pm and morning wake up at 7am.
  • The Cove: A 24 hour shelter space for those transitioning into recovery or permanent housing. The Cove hosts 42 beds (14 female, and 28 male bunks), a common kitchen and social area, a large “backyard” space, as well as an OPS facility. Guests have access to laundry and hot showers daily as well as a continental breakfast and hot dinner. A Community Connection Worker is on site 7 days a week to help guests transition into housing, gain ID, access appropriate medical services, and much more. All intakes will be done through SUMplace and ERC.
  • The Olive Branch: A shelter space for those transitioning into recovery or permanent housing. The Olive Branch hosts 46 beds, a kitchen and social area, a large front yard space, as well as OPS facilities. Guests have access to laundry and hot showers. All intakes will be done through SUMplace and ERC.
  • Emergency Response Centre (ERC): A temporary shelter space for those transitioning into recovery or more permanent housing. The ERC hosts 96 beds. This facility allows guests access to OPS tables, hot meals and showers, and monitoring by a Fraser Health staff team on site 7 days a week. New intakes: 8:00am to 9:00am through the main entrance.
  • Community Connection Services: Provides access to free essential administrative services. This team works in conjunction with healthcare providers, mental health services and other community organizations to act as a hub in moving guests forward. They provide assistance with BC Housing Applications & Support, Income Assistance Applications, Rental Subsidies and Housing Loss Prevention, Government Issued ID Acquisition & Replacement, Income Tax Filing and community referrals.
